Raising the hands when making supplication for Qunoot |
Question: Is it prescribed to raise the hands when making the du’aa for qunoot? |
Answer: As for the raising of the hands, then it has come by way of ‘Abdullaah bin Naafi’ bin Abil ‘Amyaa and he is weak, and it has come in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad from the hadeeth of Anas – however its origin is in the Saheehayn, and there is no mention of raising the hands there. So we are doubtful concerning its being established, so the raising of the hands in the du’aa of qunoot is not legislated.

Note: this is the view of the shaykh. And if anyone noticed, on the last night of Ramadaan, Shaykh 'Abdur-Rahmaan as-Sudays actually acted upon this fatwa.
And it was clarified to me that this is also the view of the Hanbali madhhab.
